Swingate Primary School
Kent Sport Small Grant
Footballs goal and badminton nets
About the project…
What was the small grant used for?
The Kent Sport small grant was used to purchase sports equipment for our school, such as football goals and badminton nets.
What impact did the funding have on the participants?
Before the purchase of the badminton net our students were unable to train properly as we didn’t have the correct equipment. With the new net (and badminton posts donated from a local badminton club) our students are able to train with a net that is the same height as in competition, helping them to better prepare for competitions, including the Mini Youth Games: Night of Champions in March. It allows a large number of students to use it at the same time increasing the number of participants practising and improving their badminton shot selections; we estimate 100-150 students use the equipment each week.
How do you intend to continue the success of the project?
The badminton net has helped our school team become more confident with shot selection knowing they are practising with nets that are the correct height. They have made it to the Night of Champions tournament at Medway Park where the top 8 teams from the Mini Youth Games will compete.
