K Sports Cobdown Hockey Club
Kent Sport Small Grant
Tonbridge & Malling
About the project…
What was the small grant used for?
We saw the need to set up new teams at K Sports Hockey Club and were looking for funding. The Kent Sport small grant was used to purchase equipment, balls and essentials to help support these teams and aid their creation.
What impact did the funding have on the participants?
The grant has enabled us to support the introduction of new teams and has seen our participation increase. This is because we now have the capacity and equipment to give more people, of all ages and abilities within the community, the chance to participate in the sport of hockey. Since our move back to K Sports Cobdown, following a new pitch being constructed, to save us travelling out of the area to play our home games, we have seen multiple promotions across both sections and seen a huge growth in our junior Academy and kids playing hockey. We are now continuing to develop and grow, with schools locally our key focus area. Our development plan for the next 5 to 10 years is ambitious, but exciting!
Did you encounter any challenges when attempting to set up the project?
Participation at school level is very hard. More often than not, they lack the equipment, skills and knowledge to deliver the sport and rely on teachers who may play the game. This is why we are putting a big focus on going into the schools, both primary and secondary to support, deliver and provide them with the opportunity to play hockey.
