Community support

Chatham Town Football Club logo.Chatham Town FC have been offering services such as food drop offs and welfare phone lines during the coronavirus outbreak. They set up a support group called “Covid-19 Team for the Community” which has been helping both supporters and non-supporters alike.

Services have included:

  • Twice weekly welfare phone calls to supporters
  • Food drop offs/food bank
  • Food shopping and errand service
  • Mental health chat line/support
  • Clothes donations to homelessness charities

They have also partnered with The Rowans, a local school, on a project to manufacture and deliver face shields and PPE to the NHS.

We felt strongly that, as a club, we had to act immediately and help our community, given the fact that the community have been so supportive of us as a club, and that many of our supporters are in vulnerable categories.

Gary Hake, CTFC General Manager

Facebook recommendation: "Thank you so much to Chatham Town FC and Gaz Hake for their kind donation and delivery to my elderly father who is housebound during the pandemic. They selflessly collected donations during this hard time and Gaz even delivered it to my father. He is beyond grateful and said this gesture by Gaz and the club has restored his faith in humanity. Being local to Chatham Town FC himself, my father will endeavour to support the team more than ever when they recommence play. What wonderful sportsmanship even out of play! The club is a credit to our town!"The work has attracted interest across social media and local media channels. Kent online have run an article, and BBC Radio Kent spoke to Russell Kimble, a qualified mental health coach and lifelong CTFC supporter, about the club’s support programme.

Gary Hake, CTFC General Manager, said: “The supporters we call and speak to are overwhelmed by us taking the time to call them, which brings us great satisfaction.”
