Being Outdoors & Active can do wonders for your physical, as well as mental wellbeing!
Fitting some physical activity into your day is easier than you think. Being active is really good for your body, mind and health – and there are lots of easy ways you and your family can get moving!

MIND’s GetSetToGo campaign can help you find the physical activity that is right for you and help you stick at it for long enough so you feel the physical, social and mental benefits of being active. If you’re not as active as you should be you are be putting your health and quality of life at risk. The OneYou webpage has loads of advice to help you to stay healthy or to improve health.


Kay’s Breeze ride

I used to cycle a lot when I was younger. I’ve done very little cycling since I had a child 8 years ago. I borrowed a bike and went along to the Breeze women’s only cycling group. They cycle for fun all over Kent and cater for all abilities, from easy ride rounds in the park to 25 mile bike rides through the countryside.

I was a bit worried after not being on a bike for so long but didn’t need to worry. The Breeze bike leaders are very supportive and friendly and you don’t need to worry about being left behind. I felt brilliant after the bike ride and feel so inspired to join another Breeze bike ride and continue to improve my confidence! For those who are thinking of giving it a go please #GoOutside and give it a try you won’t be disappointed!

Beccy’s netball sessions

I have played netball outdoors in the fresh air for over 25 years and I love it just as much now as when I started all those years ago. In the colder months however, even I have to admit that the thought of putting on my netball kit, which is not the warmest sports kit on earth, and going out into the cold is not something I always feel like doing when it is so tempting to stay indoors. However when I arrive at the netball courts, see my teammates, get warmed up, talk tactics, find out how we are doing in the league and start playing netball, those feelings of “can I be bothered?” are long gone. I am playing a game I love, with my friends, whilst staying fit and healthy. Age is not a barrier either, in my team ages range from 14 to 60. She will not thank me for saying this but my teammate who is 60 is just as fit and as good as the rest of us and still playing in the Premier division!

And one of the best bits of being outdoors, whatever you do, is the feeling that when you come back inside you have earnt the treat of curling up in the warmth with a mug of hot chocolate!
