This week, Luisa Pearce from Staplehurst is attempting to become the first person to travel across the Sahara Desert in a wheelchair. Luisa and her team’s challenge, which runs from November 4th to 13th, aims to show that whatever barriers may be put in front of us, we can break through them.

Luisa was left disabled and permanently wheelchair bound in 2014 after a routine operation went wrong and she was told she would never walk again. The team aims to raise £50,000 for the charity Freedom For Wheels, which helps disabled people in Kent receive the support and equipment they in order to help achieve or regain a better quality of life.

You can read more about the challenge and check out the team’s itinerary by visiting www.freedomforwheels.co.uk. You can follow Luisa and the team’s progress via the Freedom For Wheels Facebook page or Twitter feed (@Freedom4Wheels). If you have been inspired by the challenge Luisa and her team have taken on, why not donate to the challenge by visiting their fundraising page?

We will be checking in with the challenge during the next couple of weeks via our Twitter feed (@KentSport1), so keep your eyes peeled for updates!
