THE WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE AND WHY OF KENT’S CAMPAIGN FOR THE 2012 GAMES

THE ' WHY' OF KENT'S CAMPAIGN
The
Kent Coordinating Group for the 2012 Games was created because partners
could visualise the Olympics and Paralympics as a catalyst to enable Kent
to achieve better its existing priorities. In addition, partners were convinced
that the Games present a one-off opportunity to deliver a number of new
projects and programmes, resulting in long-term legacy.
The Games have the potential to inspire thousands of Kent’s residents to take up more physical activity and thereby improve their health and well being. But the Games also offer a platform for our businesses, tourism industry, and regeneration plans. We want Kent’s companies to win contracts associated with the Games; schools to use the Olympics in cross-curricular work; the County to be show-cased world-wide in order to attract more tourists and encourage businesses to locate here; greater coordinated international exposure; pre-Games training camps to be hosted in Kent; many residents volunteering during and after the Games; and we want Kent to play a major role in the delivery of the UK’s Cultural Olympiad and Cultural Festival in the years 2008 – 2012. Above all, we want the Games to be a major influence to help transform Kent into an even better place to live, work and play, for the years after 2012.
